Hola {{first_name|amigo}},
Most of what we send you is something to watch or read. This week it's something to do. Over the last few months we've quietly built a set of games and tools on the Spanish Minds site — all free — and I realised a lot of you have no idea they exist.
Four of them, then a question about Argentina.
1. New: La Última Clase — a Spanish mystery
Your Spanish teacher has vanished. All she left behind is a message: «Vení a Buenos Aires. Tenés catorce días.»
So you follow her trail — from a rain-slicked Buenos Aires street in 1953, up to the seven-coloured hill at Purmamarca, all the way down to Ushuaia at the end of the world. Eight Argentine provinces, sixteen clues, each one solved in Spanish. Every chapter opens with a narrated, illustrated film voiced by Argentines, and every clue has a hint, a stronger hint, and an explanation, so you're never stuck for long.
Along the way you pick up the Spanish you'd actually need on that trip: vos sos, tenés, vení, directions, telling the time for the 06:15 coach, asking the hotel for things, and what to pack when va a nevar. A2–B1, about an hour, free, no account needed.
2. Learn Truco — Argentina's card game
Sit at any table in Argentina long enough and someone will pull out a Spanish deck and start shouting «¡Truco!». It's part bluffing, part arithmetic, part theatre — and almost entirely conversation.
Ours comes with a real-time AI voice coach. Ten bilingual lessons take you from the deck itself to bluffing strategy, quick drills build the instincts (card ranking, envido maths, "what would you call?"), and then you play full matches against Luna, Martín or Don Benicio — three difficulty levels, three personalities, all talking to you in Spanish.
«Bien jugado, che. Vamos por la revancha.» — Well played, mate. Let's go again.
Free with a free Spanish Minds account.
3. Vocabulario — 625 words, no English
Stories beat flashcards — we still believe it. But you can't get lost in a story when you don't have the nouns yet. That's what this is for.
The First 625 words: the ones that unlock the most everyday Spanish. Every word arrives as a picture instead of a translation, so you learn pan → 🥖, not pan → bread → 🥖. Spaced repetition decides what comes back and when. Free, no account, still in beta — so if something annoys you, hit reply and tell us.
4. The blog — for when you've got ten minutes
Not everything needs to be a game. The Spanish Minds blog is where the culture lives in longer form: traditions, slang, Argentina and Colombia, the stories behind our Sobremesa episodes, and quick tips you can use the same day. Good for a coffee break.
And one more thing: Argentina, in person
EARLY INTEREST · NO COMMITMENT
Cuatro días de español en Argentina
The games are the warm-up. What we really want is to take some of you there. Daniela and I are planning our first four-day immersion trips in Argentina for intermediate (B1+) learners — language, food, music, and the people you go with. Not a classroom with a view. Four days where Spanish is simply the only option on the table.
There are no dates, no price and no booking page yet, because we haven't decided. Buenos Aires, Mendoza or Bariloche? When, and what would it be worth to you? That's what we're asking. Two minutes, no payment, no commitment — and if enough of you want the same thing, we'll run it and you'll hear first.
Teach Spanish? There's a separate page for teachers.
One question before you go: ¿cuál vas a probar primero — el Truco o el misterio? And if you get stuck on a clue or lose badly to Don Benicio, hit reply. I read all of them.
Nos vemos,
Will
